Course Description:
This subject emphasizes the key components and fundamental ideas of marine power plants. It is geared toward students studying marine transportation. The ship's marine power plant is in charge of producing the mechanical and electrical energy needed for ship propulsion and different ship auxiliaries. According to the type of power generating source that provides the ship's propulsion power, marine power plants are categorized. Internal combustion engines, gas turbines, and steam turbines are the three primary prime movers. Depending on the vessel type, steam cycles driven by oil fueled boilers are employed with steam turbines. Combinations of the types do exist, and new technology, such as all-electric ships, are becoming more and more of a global concern.
